Mexican President Pena Nieto Condemns Donald Trump's Wall Project
Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said on Wednesday that he "condemned" the will of his American counterpart, Donald Trump, to build a wall at the border with the United States. He repeated that he would not pay "for any wall".

The Mexican president Enrique Pena Nieto sentenced Wednesday, January 26 draft his US counterpart Donald Trump to build a wall on the border between the two countries. He pledged to defend Mexican migrants in the United States.

"I regret and condemn the decision of the United States to continue the construction of the wall which for years, instead of uniting us, divides us," he said in a brief video message broadcast on his Twitter account.

"Mexico does not believe in walls, as I have said several times: Mexico will not pay for any wall," he reacted to the US President's promise to have the wall paid by his neighbor to the south.

His American counterpart, Donald Trump, signed on Wednesday a decree launching the project to build this wall, to stem illegal immigration to the United States.

A meeting scheduled with Trump

However, the Mexican president did not indicate whether he intended to cancel the planned meeting with the Republican magnate on 31 January, saying he would wait for a high-level delegation to return to Washington before making a decision "on the next steps".

In Mexico, throughout the day on Wednesday, opposition leaders urged Enrique Peña Nieto not to visit Washington next week to protest the wall project.

After the announcement of the American head of state, Enrique Peña Nieto also said that he had asked the 50 Mexican consulates in the United States to become "authentic defenders of the rights of Mexican migrants".
